I grew up in the heyday of magazines and, in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s—the best and most competitive time to be a designer in that field—found myself designing and art-directing them. Though magazines are no longer the staple they were then, that experience has informed everything I have worked on since—books, promotional literature, annual reports, etc. Some of the publications displayed here were designed within existing formats, others were redesign projects, and a few were original startup formats.
